False Alarm Reduction Program
The Greater Sudbury Police Services Board adopted a False Alarm Reduction Program Bylaw in 2002. This came following a comprehensive analysis of the Service's response to false alarms.
The Program is designed to reduce one of the most significant misuses of police resources and free up officers for legitimate calls for service. Out of the alarm calls received, only five percent are the result of a criminal offence; the other ninety-five percent are false due to a number of factors, including user error or improper installation of the alarm system.
Full operation of the program began January 2003.
The registration covers a 3-year period and each registrant receives one free false alarm for each year of the registration. Every false alarm after that free one within that year of registration is subject to a fee of $60.00. If they are not registered and have a false alarm, the fee is $100.00. To register in the program, please complete the False Alarm Form.
Further comments and inquiries of the program can be made to the attention of the False Alarm Coordinator. Send us an Email!
