Firearms - Registering and Surrendering of Firearms

Working in conjunction with the Canadian Firearms Centre, the Greater Sudbury Police Service is dedicated to enhancing public safety by enforcing the provisions of the Firearms Act and the Criminal Code which govern the possession, transportation, use and storage of firearms.

The Canadian Firearms Safety Course provides the foundation for responsible firearm ownership, following which each firearm owner is tasked with maintaining compliance with all laws and regulations. The privilege of firearm ownership is dependent upon possessing a valid Possession and Acquisition Licence (PAL) or a Possession Only Licence (POL) and securing firearm certificates.

Remember To...

  • Take regular inventory of your firearms and ammunition.

  • Record all non-restricted firearms information, including; make, model, caliber/gauge, serial number, and any other identifying features.

  • Make sure restricted and prohibited firearms are registered.

  • Take photos of all your firearms and storage device(s)

Without this information, firearms may not be returned to you, the rightful owner, if lost/stolen/seized.
