Ride

The Traffic Management Unit continues to target impaired driving within the City of Greater Sudbury.

R.I.D.E (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) is aimed at reducing impaired driving related injuries, property damage, and death. R.I.D.E. checks are organized in such a fashion as to target high-incident areas. Ride.jpg

We strive to educate the public and remind you to think before you drink. The costs associated with this selfish act are astronomical. Some of the effects of drinking and driving are:

  • Increased insurance premiums
  • Loss of driving privileges
  • A criminal record
  • Large monetary penalties both to courts and lawyers
  • A.D.L.S. suspensions
  • Ignition interlock
  • Death or injury

Festive RIDE 2011 Holiday Season

The Greater Sudbury Police Service conducted the Festive RIDE program from November 28 to December 31st 2011 in conjunction with the holiday season. The Unit was comprised of officers from the GSPS Traffic Management and Uniform Branch, in partnership with the Ontario Provincial Police.

Chief of Police Frank Elsner states that "This Service's commitment to road safety and to reduce impaired driving within our community is and will continue to be a key objective for the police service. The focus of the RIDE program was to have increased visibility throughout Greater Sudbury and I believe that was achieved in this campaign." Chief Elsner adds that "though the Festive Season is over, our Service will continue to conduct RIDE checks in 2012 throughout the City of Greater Sudbury."
