Twitter Safety

  • 145947_4872.jpgDo not tell others that you are going out somewhere. By doing so, you are letting them know your location and that your home is empty.
  • If you want to share some insight into your life, tell people that "you just got back from" an activity or place. Remember to keep your activity location neutral, using terms like "mall" instead of New Sudbury Shopping Centre.
  • Especially do not tweet that you are going away for the weekend or on a trip! This lets your followers know that your house is empty for that time duration. Instead, tell others who follow you what a great trip "you just came back from."
  • Don't let the world know if you live alone, are home alone a lot, or have friends or family who are home alone.
  • Twitter is about being sociable, not revealing every secret of your life. Be careful what you tweet.

Be aware of Geotagging

Geotagging is an optional Twitter feature that makes your exact location public. If you do not wish to automatically broadcast your current location, make sure that the setting is disabled in your Twitter settings.
