4th annual Truth and Reconciliation Relay

Today, in partnership with Shkagamik-Kwe Health Centre, we proudly hosted the official media launch for our 4th annual Truth and Reconciliation Relay.

This initiative seeks to raise awareness of the lasting trauma and profound loss caused by Residential Schools, while also deepening community understanding of the Calls to Action issued by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada.

Through this relay, we aim to support healing and advance reconciliation by connecting participants with educational resources that highlight the intergenerational impacts of Residential Schools. Whether walking, running, or cycling, participants are encouraged to reflect on how they can meaningfully respond to the Calls to Action—both in their personal lives and within their professional roles.

Last year, the Junction Creek Stewardship Committee achieved 100% staff participation and was honoured with the Championing Change Paddle. Today, the paddle was officially returned and will soon be passed on to another dedicated organization.

This year, all four school boards in Greater Sudbury have been invited to take part. Elementary students will contribute through a “Seven Grandfathers” colouring contest, while secondary students will compete in a friendly challenge to log the most kilometres.

We look forward to another impactful relay that inspires change and deepens our collective journey toward reconciliation.
