Recently, members of the Greater Sudbury Police Service Community Response Unit concluded an enforcement and engagement initiative in the downtown core.

The initiative focused on addressing concerns related to open-air public drug use, criminal activity, and social disorder while supporting efforts to connect vulnerable individuals with community resources and services.

Members of the Greater Sudbury Police Service Break, Enter and Robbery (BEAR) Unit have arrested two individuals in connection to a commercial Break and Enter in the downtown core.

Around 3:00 a.m. on October 26, 2026, multiple individuals forced entry into the business on Cedar Street and stole approximately $20,000 worth of property.

Around 12:00 p.m. on November 1, 2026, the Greater Sudbury Police Service responded to a report of an unresponsive individual on Lorne Street. Upon arrival, emergency responders located the individual and confirmed that they were deceased.

The Greater Sudbury Police Service launched its Road Safety Enforcement Initiative on October 18, 2026, with dedicated officers conducting targeted enforcement in high-priority areas across the city. During the first two weeks of the initiative, from October 18 to October 31, 2026, officers conducted focused enforcement activities aimed at addressing dangerous driving behaviours and improving road safety throughout Greater Sudbury.

On October 28, 2026, members of the Greater Sudbury Police Service (GSPS) Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) concluded a drug trafficking investigation in Greater Sudbury.

As part of the investigation, officers from the GSPS Emergency Response Unit (ERU) and K-9 Unit executed a search warrant under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act at a residential unit on Lasalle Boulevard. Five individuals were taken into custody during the search warrant.

In March of 2026, the Greater Sudbury Police Service (GSPS) Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit launched an undercover online investigation targeting individuals who were using the internet to communicate with and lure children for a sexual purpose.

As a result of the investigation, detectives identified and arrested two individuals from Southern Ontario.

On October 22, 2026, members of the Greater Sudbury Police Service (GSPS) Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU), with assistance from the Intelligence Unit, concluded a drug trafficking investigation in Greater Sudbury.

As part of the investigation, officers from the Emergency Response Unit (ERU) and K-9 Unit conducted a high-risk traffic stop on Highway 69 where an individual from Southern Ontario was arrested for drug offences.

At approximately 9:00 a.m. on October 20, 2026, the Greater Sudbury Police Service (GSPS) responded to a report of a collision involving a train and a pedestrian at the intersection of Elm Street and Frood Road.

Collision on Lasalle Elm Street between Big Nickel Mine Road and the Lasalle Extension

Around 6:30 p.m. on October 13, 2026, officers were dispatched to a collision on Elm Street between the Big Nickel Mine Road on-ramp and the Lasalle Extension off-ramp.

Collision on Notre Dame Avenue involving a pedestrian

Around 7:15 p.m. officers were dispatched to Notre Dame Avenue between Morin Avenue and Cambrian Heights Drive in relation to a collision involving a pedestrian.

Shortly before 2:40 a.m. on October 11, 2026, the Greater Sudbury Police Service (GSPS) received a traffic complaint regarding a motorcycle carrying a passenger that was being operated in an erratic manner on Notre Dame Avenue. Information provided to police indicated the motorcycle was swerving across the roadway, preventing another vehicle from passing, and driving dangerously close to it.
