Officers arrest two individuals in downtown core for illicit drug trafficking
The Greater Sudbury Police Service Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) working in collaboration with the Central Community Response (CRU) Unit and Patrol Operations remain commitment to disrupting the trafficking of illicit drugs in the downtown core and throughout our jurisdiction. Street-level drug trafficking poses a significant threat to the safety, security and well-being of our community.

Officers arrest 40-year-old man for historical IPV incidentsIn July, officers from the Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) Unit began an investigation in relation to historical IPV incidents involving two individuals in our community.
On August 5, 2025, 40-year-old, Robert Dorzek from Val Caron was arrested by members of our Emergency Response and IPV Units.

Officers investigating fatal ORV collision North of CapreolUPDATE
As a result of the investigation into the fatal off-road vehicle collision on August 4, 2025, North of Capreol, that claimed the life of an 11-year-old, youth, officers in the Integrated Traffic Safety Unit (ITSU) have charged the driver, a 46-year-old, man with the following offences under the Criminal Code of Canada;
- Dangerous Operation Causing Death
- Criminal Negligence Causing Death
The individual was released with a court date of January 7, 2026, to answer to the charges.

Swimmer Critically Injured on Lake NepahwinUPDATE
Unfortunately, as a result of the serious marine collision that occurred on August 1, 2025, on Lake Nepahwin, the 52-year-old, woman succumbed to her injuries and died in the hospital on August 2, 2025.

In November 2024, GSPS received multiple community complaints regarding the unauthorized sale of psilocybin, a Schedule III controlled substance under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA).

Arrest Leads to Seizure of Over $32,000 in Illicit DrugsOn July 29th, 2025, the Greater Sudbury Police Service received information regarding a wanted individual believed to be in the area of Somerset Street. The individual was known to have an outstanding warrant for Failure to Comply with Release Order, contrary to Section 145(5)(a) of the Criminal Code.

Over $125,000 in Illicit Drugs Seized Following GSPS Drug Trafficking InvestigationOn Monday, July 28th, 2025, Detectives from the Greater Sudbury Police Service (GSPS) Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) concluded an investigation into an individual suspected of trafficking illicit drugs within the Greater Sudbury area.
As a result of the investigation, members of the GSPS Emergency Response Unit (ERU) conducted a targeted traffic stop on Highway 69 in Greater Sudbury on July 28th, 2025, resulting in the arrest of an adult male originally from the Durham region.
