  • DEU seizes over $40,000 in illicit drugs during search warrant on Pine Street

    On May 2, 2024, Detectives from the Greater Sudbury Police Service Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) concluded an investigation regarding individuals from the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) who were believed to be trafficking illicit drugs in Greater Sudbury.

    Detectives from the Integrated Crime Section of our Criminal Investigation Division, along with the assistance of the Emergency Response Unit (ERU), K-9 Unit and the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP)-led Provincial Guns & Gangs Enforcement Team.

  • 57-year-old charged with sexual assault in historical investigation

    In 2004, the Greater Sudbury Police Service received a report of sexual assault involving a youth, however, at the time the survivor did not want to pursue criminal charges.

    In January 2023, Detectives in the Major Sex Crime Unit of our Criminal Investigation Division initiated the investigation as the survivor was ready to proceed with the court process and there is no statute of limitation when it comes to reporting and/or investigating a sexual assault.

  • Human remains found in Chelmsford

    UPDATE

    On April 29 and 30, 2024, members from Patrol Operations, Rural Community Response Unit, K9 Unit and the Criminal Investigation Division assisted by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) K9 cadaver dog and handler completed a ground search in the wooded area, West of Marion Street in Chelmsford.

    Officers thoroughly searched a 100-foot radius around where the original skeletal remains were found.

  • Rohan Williams Homicide Investigation

    UPDATE

    The Greater Sudbury Police Service is seeking information in relation to the murder of 50-year-old, Rohan Williams whose body was discovered in his apartment on Elm Street on May 31, 2022. 

    Police were contacted by Rohan Williams’ loved ones who had not seen or heard from him for several days prior to his body being found.

  • Police investigating threat at St. Benedict Catholic Secondary School

    UPDATE

    Officers have identified the individuals responsible for the messages found on the bathroom stall and have determined that there is no valid threat to the school.

  • Beware of Rental Scams - Scammers Posting Units They Do Not Own

    We advise community members to be vigilant when looking for and putting down money on rental apartments.

    We continue to receive reports of individuals being scammed on sites such as Facebook Marketplace and Rentals.

  • Requesting assistance to locate driver and vehicle involved in fail to remain on Third Avenue

    UPDATE
    The driver at the time of the incident has been identified and the vehicle involved in collision has been located, a Subaru Forester.

    The driver of the vehicle has been issued a part III summons under the Highway Traffic Act for Fail to Remain.

  • 60-year-old man charged with numerous sexual violence-related offences

    On April 9, 2024, Detectives from the Integrated Crime Section of our Criminal Investigation Division began an investigation into an individual believed to have committed numerous historical sexual violence-related offences against individuals under the age of 18.

    Detectives arrested and charged 60-year-old, Marcel Armstrong with the following offences under the Criminal Code of Canada;

    • Sexual Assault
    • Publication of Intimate Images without Consent
    • Voyeurism x2
    • Possession of Child Pornography
    • Makes,.
  • OPP-led GNG Enforcement Team and GSPS DEU seize nearly half a kilogram of Cocaine

    Two individuals have been charged after a search warrant was executed at a residence on Ontario Street in Sudbury by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP)-led Provincial Joint Forces Guns and Gangs Enforcement Team (PGNG) and the Greater Sudbury Police Service (GSPS) Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU).

    The following items were seized:

    • nearly half a kilogram of cocaine
    • $2,440 in Canadian currency
    • six cell phones
    • drug trafficking paraphernalia·
