  • Acquisition and deployment of Tactical Rescue Vehicle (TRV)

    The Greater Sudbury Police Service is pleased to announce the acquisition and deployment of the service’s first Tactical Rescue Vehicle (TRV), strengthening our ability to safely respond to high‑risk, life‑threatening incidents.

    The TRV is designed to protect officers and the community during critical incidents such as armed barricades, active threats, and complex rescue situations.

  • Collaborative effort leads to identification of Missing Person, Pamela Harvey (1978 Greater Sudbury)

    March 31st, 2026 – A collaborative effort between the Sûreté du Québec, the Greater Sudbury Police Service (GSPS), the Québec Coroner’s Office, and the Laboratoire de sciences judiciaires et de médecine légale (LSJML) of the ministère de la Sécurité publique du Québec has led to the location and identification of missing person Pamela Harvey.

    Pamela Harvey was reported missing to the Sudbury Regional Police Service (SRPS) on December 25, 1978.

  • Requesting assistance to identify individual involved in an assault in the New Sudbury area

    UPDATE 2

    Through the ongoing investigation into the incident reported at a retail store in New Sudbury, detectives in the Major Crime Section and Child Abuse and Sexual Assault (CASA) Unit identified the individual believed to be responsible. Based on the investigation, it was determined that the individual is not a young offender and resides in Southern Ontario.

  • Officers arrest individual for a 3rd time in less than 2 yrs for drug and firearm related offences

    On March 24, 2026, detectives from the Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) concluded a drug investigation into individuals believed to be trafficking illicit drugs in our community.

    Based on the investigation, members of the Emergency Response Unit (ERU) and K9 Unit executed two Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) warrants at a detached structure and an apartment located on King Street.

  • UPDATE 2 – Heavy police presence on MR80 – Charges and results of search warrant

    UPDATE 2

    As a result of the search warrant executed at the residence on MR80, officers located and seized what is believed to be the firearm used in the robbery, a second firearm and ammunition.

    36-year-old, James Kidd and 46-year-old, Brooke Tyson, the two individuals taken into custody by ERU at the residence, have been charged with the following offences under the Criminal Code of Canada;

    • Robbery with a Firearm
    • Disguise with Intent
    • Pointing a Firearm
    • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
    • Possession.
  • Collision Reporting Centre Closed March 17

    Due to the significant storm yesterday, the Collision Reporting Centre (CRC) in Azilda, located at 239 Montee Principale, will remain closed today, March 17, 2026.

    Anyone involved in a collision today or who was involved in a collision yesterday, is asked to report to the CRC once operations resume.

  • Extreme Winter Weather Conditions

    The City of Greater Sudbury and surrounding areas are currently experiencing severe winter weather. CGS has declared a Significant Weather Event and has deployed all available resources to respond to the storm, however, it may take longer than usual to maintain local roadways.
