Shoplifting is not a victimless crime. Retail theft affects local businesses, employees, and community members. Business owners often absorb significant financial losses, which can contribute to higher prices, increased security costs, and additional pressures on staff. Repeated theft incidents can also impact the overall sense of safety in our community.
GSPS officers remain committed to working with local businesses to address retail theft and hold repeat offenders accountable.
The success of these investigations highlights the importance of reporting shoplifting incidents to police. Information submitted by businesses through our online reporting system, along with evidence collected through investigations, allowed officers to identify suspects and connect them to multiple occurrences that may have otherwise remained unsolved.
Businesses are encouraged to continue reporting retail theft incidents through our online reporting system and to provide any available evidence, including surveillance footage and suspect descriptions. These reports help investigators identify patterns, track repeat offenders, and support successful prosecutions.
