Just before 9:55 a.m. on September 5, 2026, members of the Greater Sudbury Police Service (GSPS), Greater Sudbury Fire Services, and Greater Sudbury Paramedic Services responded to a two-vehicle collision on Municipal Road 80 (MR80) near the Hanmer Valley Shopping Centre in Val Caron.
Preliminary investigation indicates that a blue sedan travelling eastbound on MR80 collided with a black SUV that was turning left from the shopping centre parking lot to travel westbound on MR80.
Fresh off the excitement of the 2026 FIFA World Cup hosted across Canada, the United States and Mexico, Greater Sudbury is bringing that same spirit of competition, culture and community to the local stage.

On August 27, 2026, shortly after 2:00 p.m., officers with the Greater Sudbury Police Service responded to a fail-to-remain collision near Bancroft Drive.
The investigation revealed that a pickup truck struck another vehicle before fleeing the scene. After speaking with witnesses, officers obtained a description of the suspect vehicle.

As part of the ongoing investigation into the serious assault that occurred on Durham Street on August 28, 2026, officers identified the individual believed to be responsible for the attack.

On August 28, 2026, shortly before 1:00 a.m., officers with the Greater Sudbury Police Service were dispatched to Durham Street following multiple 911 calls reporting that a male had been assaulted.
On August 21, 2026, the Greater Sudbury Police Service (GSPS) Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit in conjunction with the Ottawa Police Service (OPS) Internet Child Exploitation Unit and Digital Forensic Unit executed a search warrant in Nepean, Ontario.

Through an investigation into a series of thefts from vehicles and subsequent fraudulent use of stolen property, Greater Sudbury Police Service (GSPS) officers have identified and charged two individuals in connection with multiple incidents that occurred in the Capreol area.
