    Do you know a Police Service member, a community member or a community organization that deserves recognition for their actions? You can nominate a Police Service member, community member or community organization to be considered for an award to be presented at this year’s Community and Police Awards Gala. The gala provides us with the opportunity to honour and thank those who have demonstrated commitment and leadership in incidents that required quick and immediate.

  • Two Can Play That Game

    On the evening of Friday, February 3rd, 2023, Police responded to a call for service regarding a Robbery that had occurred at a residence in Lively. Information provided was that the victim had listed a cell phone for sale on an online classifieds forum.

  • GSPS Recognizes Black History Month 2023

    Today, February 1st, marks the beginning of Black History Month. The 2023 theme for Black History Month is: “Ours to tell”.

  • GSPS Charges 22 Impaired Drivers in the First Month of 2023

    So far this month, we’ve charged a total of 22 impaired drivers in Greater Sudbury. Not a good start to 2023, folks.

  • Statement on the Death of Tyre Nichols

    On January 7, 2023, 29-year-old, Tyre Nichols was violently beaten to death by five Memphis police officers after a routine traffic stop. As a result of the attack, the officers have been fired and they have since been charged with second-degree murder, aggravated assault, two charges of aggravated kidnapping, two charges of official misconduct and one charge of official oppression.

    In preparation for this year’s Greater Sudbury Polar Plunge, we’re asking Greater Sudbury youth to participate in our 2023 Polar Plunge contests.

    Poster Contest: For students in Grades 1-6

     Guidelines
    • Poster must be drawn on 8 1/2” x 11” white paper horizontally
    • Each poster must portray “Plungee” the polar bear mascot (please see the image below as an example)
    • Students may use crayons, paint, coloured pencils or markers.
    • Wild Wild West - 37 year old man arrested and charged in connection to 13 B&Es

      On January 23, 2023, 37-year-old, Mark West was arrested on an Arrest Warrant in relation to 13 commercial Break and Enters that took place between October 2022 and January 2023.

      Detectives from the Break Enter and Robbery (BEAR) Unit of the Integrated Crime Section in our Criminal Investigation Division connected him to 13 active Break and Enter investigations spanning over a three-month period.

    • 61 year old man arrested and charged in relation to two separate sexual assault investigations

      In September 2022, we received two separate complaints from two Survivors of Sexual Assault involving the same man who was in a position of power and authority when the attacks took place. The incidents occurred between January and September of 2022.
