As part of our ongoing commitment to the Community Safety and Well-being Plan and Downtown Strategy, members of the Central Community Response Unit (CRU)—working in close collaboration with Patrol Operations and the Integrated Crime Section (ICS)—continue to focus on addressing concerns, issues, and crimes in the downtown core.
Between January 1 and August 27, 2025, officers conducted 2,189 focused patrols and responded to 6,189 calls for service.

Through the ongoing investigation into the double homicide on August 29, 2025, detectives have obtained images of three men believed to be involved in the incident. Images of the three individuals are attached.

BEAR Unit arrests individual in connection to 15 commercial B&E’sOn August 28, 2025, detectives from our Break Enter and Robbery (BEAR) Unit concluded an investigation into an individual who is believed to be involved in at least 15 commercial Break and Enters between July 23 and August 27, 2025. These incidents primarily occurred in New Sudbury and the South End where the individual responsible used an object to smash a window of the business to gain access to the cash register and steal money from the till.

Stationary Automated Licence Plate ReadersAs part of our ongoing commitment to community safety and well-being and targeting individuals who pose an elevated risk to the safety, security and wellness of Greater Sudbury, the Greater Sudbury Police Service (GSPS) has used funds received from the Government of Ontario Closed-circuit Television (CCTV) Grant program to purchase and install stationary Automated Licence Plate Reader (ALPR) systems at 16 strategic locations within our community.

Officers investigating shooting on Spruce StreetBEAR Unit seizes over $200,000 in stolen property during search warrant in WahnapitaeOn August 9, 2025, detectives from our Break Enter and Robbery (BEAR) Unit concluded an investigation into an individual who was believed to be involved in at least five significant property-related crimes between 2015 and 2025.
Detectives from the Integrated Crime Section executed a search warrant at an address in Wahnapitae in relation to the investigation.
