UPDATE – New images of person believed to be responsible for shooting at Overtime Sports Bar
UPDATE
Through the ongoing investigation into the fatal shooting on April 21, 2023 at Overtime Sports Bar in Greater Sudbury that took the life of a 22-year-old man, Detectives have obtained additional images of the person believed to be responsible.
It is believed that the individual responsible for the shooting is a young person (under the age of 18), therefore Detectives have applied for and been granted permission to release the images pursuant to a judge’s order under Section 110, subsection.

Four people arrested and charged in connection to the murder of 31-year-old manUPDATE 2
On April 14, 2023, Detectives from the Major Crime Section of our Criminal Investigation Division located the body of 31-year-old Emad Ali in a wooded area off Dryden Road in Greater Sudbury. Upon locating the body, members of our Search and Rescue Team working in collaboration with North Shore Search and Rescue and GSPS and OPP K9 Units conducted an extensive ground search of the area.

Fatal Collision on Capreol Lake Road claims the life of 22-year-old woman22-year-old man dies after shooting at establishment on Notre Dame AvenueGuns & Gangs Team and GSPS DEU & ERU Conduct Vehicle Stop Resulting in Drugs & Weapons ChargesOn April 19, 2023, members from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP)-led Provincial Guns and Gangs Enforcement Team and the Greater Sudbury Police Service (GSPS) - Drug Enforcement Unit conducted a traffic stop, assisted by members of the GSPS Emergency Response Unit.
One person was arrested at the scene and officers seized a loaded handgun with an extended magazine and ammunition, over 600 grams of cocaine, over 140 grams of fentanyl and just under $51,000 in Canadian cash.

Detectives investigating suspicious death of 69-year-old manUPDATE
Through the investigation and as a result of the postmortem conducted through the coroner’s office, the death of the 69-year-old man has been deemed to be not suspicious in nature.
The scene on Morin Street has been released and police will no longer be in the area.

68-year-old Man Arrested and Charged by Internet Child Exploitation UnitOn April 12, 2023 the Greater Sudbury Police Service Internet Child Exploitation and Computer Forensics Units executed a Search Warrant at a residence in Greater Sudbury.
As a result of the investigation, 68-year-old, Jack Laakso was arrested and charged with the following offences under the Criminal Code of Canada:
- Access Child Pornography
- Possess Child Pornography
- Make Available Child Pornography
He appeared in Bail Court on April 13, 2023 to answer to the charges.

During this time, 71 Survivors of Human Trafficking have been identified however a number of these individuals are not residents of Greater Sudbury as Human Trafficking is a multi-jurisdictional crime where traffickers move from city to city, within the province and throughout Canada.
