  • Local contractor charged with Fraud Over $5,000

    In January, Detectives from the Financial Crimes Unit of our Criminal Investigation Division began a Fraud investigation into an individual operating a local contracting business, Enhanced Pools and Spas.

    Between March 2021 and October 2022, a community member paid close to $60,000 for the installation of a pool, however, the job was never completed, and the contractor stated that he had no intention of completing the project despite already receiving the funds outlined in the contract.

  • BEAR Unit seizes $59,000 in drugs, over $60,000 cash and $20,000 in stolen property

    On March 8, 2024, Detectives from the Greater Sudbury Police Service Break Enter and Robbery (BEAR) Unit concluded an investigation into an individual who was believed to be involved in property-related crimes throughout Ontario.

    Detectives from the Integrated Crime Section with the assistance of the Emergency Response Unit (ERU) arrested a 32-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman on property related offences.

  • Detectives investigating shooting on Brebeuf Avenue

    UPDATE

    On Thursday, March 14, 2024, with the assistance of the Toronto Police Service, 24-year-old, Gao Xo Vang from Southern Ontario was arrested in relation to the shooting that occurred on Brebeuf Avenue on March 10, 2024.

    Gao Xo Vang was transported back to the City of Greater Sudbury to answer to the following charges.

  • SCAM ALERT - Fire Marshal - Fraud Prevention Month
    Over the past few months, we have received at least six similar Fraud complaints from local businesses involving scammers posing as Landlords of the building or as the business owner.
    In these situations, an employee of the business receives a call from an individual posing as the building landlord or business owner stating that the Fire Marshal will be attending the business to do an inspection.

    Fraud Prevention Month aims to help Canadians recognize warning signs, reject suspicious claims and report fraud to the authorities.

    Beware of some of the tactics that scammers use:

    • Spoofing: Fraudsters can change the caller-ID that is displayed on your phone, the sender address in an email and often mimic legitimate websites
    • Urgency: By pressuring you to comply with their demands, they are trying to give you less time to consider whether the request is suspicious

  • DEU Seizes $19,400 in Drugs and $6,000 in Cash from Drug Trafficker

    On February 17th, 2024, Detectives from the Greater Sudbury Police Service Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) concluded an investigation regarding an individual from the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) who was believed to be trafficking illicit drugs in Greater Sudbury.

    Detectives from the Integrated Crime Section, along with the assistance of the Emergency Response Unit (ERU) and the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP)-led Provincial Guns and Gangs Enforcement Team arrested a 39-year-old male from the GTA on.
