Bookkeeper caught cooking the books for personal gain
In early June, Detectives from the Financial Crimes Unit of our Criminal Investigation Division began a fraud investigation into an employee at a local business who was believed to be using company funds and forging accounting entries for personal financial gain.
After interviewing several witnesses and obtaining a search warrant for the individual’s personal banking records, Detectives arrested and charged 41-year-old, Josee Lafontaine with Fraud Over $5,000.

We began this initiative as an internal event for GSPS members in 2022 with a goal of 10,000 km collectively and 100 participants.
The 10,000 km was to signify the estimated number of children who did not make it home from Canadian residential schools, however, we know that number is much higher.

28-year-old man charged in internet child exploitation investigationOn June 8, 2023, the Greater Sudbury Police Service Internet Child Exploitation and Computer Forensics Units in collaboration with the Emergency Response Unit executed a search warrant at a residence in Greater Sudbury.
As a result of the investigation, 28-year-old, Matthew Newton was arrested and charged with the following offences:
- Access Child Pornography x2
- Possess Child Pornography x2
Matthew Newton appeared in bail court on June 8, 2023 to answer to the charges.

Missing person 62-year-old Rae Cameron located deceasedDetectives conducting homicide investigation after two youths were stabbed on Falconbridge RoadUPDATE 3
Overnight, both youths attended headquarters and surrendered to police in relation to the stabbing on Falconbridge Road that claimed the life of a 17-year-old youth and left a second youth with serious injuries.
A 16-year-old, youth has been charged with First Degree Murder, Attempt Murder, Carrying a Concealed Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose.
