Officers arrest two individuals after assault at Energy Court
Just before 6:45 p.m. on August 17, 2026, officers were dispatched to a weapons-related incident at Energy Court. Information received indicated that one individual had attacked another individual with a baseball bat before fleeing the scene. A 42-year-old woman was transported to hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening, injuries.
Through the investigation, officers determined that the individual responsible for the attack had discarded the baseball bat prior to fleeing. The weapon was subsequently located through a review of video surveillance footage.
At approximately 9:30 p.m., officers located and arrested the individual believed to be responsible for the attack, along with a second individual believed to have been involved.
A 17-year-old youth has been charged with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. The youth was held in custody overnight and is scheduled to attend bail court today to answer to the charges. In accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the youth cannot be identified, and no further information regarding their identity will be released.
The second individual, a 30-year-old woman from Greater Sudbury, has been charged with obstructing a peace officer and accessory after the fact. She was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on October 7, 2026, to answer to the charges. Her name cannot be released at this time, as the information has not yet been sworn through the court process.
