Detectives arrest and charge two individuals in relation to assault at skate park in Hanmer

The Greater Sudbury Police Service (GSPS) Major Crime Section has identified, arrested, and charged two individuals in connection with a serious assault.

 

Shortly after 9:00 p.m. on July 31, 2026, a 14-year-old youth sustained serious injuries while at a skate park on St. Joseph Street in Hanmer. The youth was transported to hospital, where they received medical treatment.

 

As a result of the incident, detectives with the Major Crime Section of the Criminal Investigation Division launched an investigation and subsequently identified two individuals believed to be responsible for the assault.

 

On August 11, 2026, officers arrested and charged a 14-year-old young offender and 18-year-old Skylar Caron with the following offences under the Criminal Code of Canada:

  • Aggravated assault
  • Uttering threats to cause death
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Breach of probation order (Skylar Caron)

 

The 14-year-old young offender appeared in bail court on August 11, 2026, to answer to the charges. In accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the youth cannot be identified and no further information regarding their identity will be released.

 

Skylar Caron was held in police custody overnight and is scheduled to appear in bail court today, August 12, 2026, to answer to the charges.
