  • The nose, knows – K9 Roy assists detectives with vehicle search & seizure of over $67,700 in drugs

    In the Spring of 2023, Detectives from the Greater Sudbury Police Service Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) working in collaboration with the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP)-led Provincial Joint Forces Guns and Gangs Enforcement Team began an investigation into an individual from Southern Ontario who was believed to be trafficking illicit drugs in Greater Sudbury.

  • 28-year-old man charged in internet child exploitation investigation

    On June 8, 2023, the Greater Sudbury Police Service Internet Child Exploitation and Computer Forensics Units in collaboration with the Emergency Response Unit executed a search warrant at a residence in Greater Sudbury.

    As a result of the investigation, 28-year-old, Matthew Newton was arrested and charged with the following offences:

    • Access Child Pornography x2
    • Possess Child Pornography x2                    

    Matthew Newton appeared in bail court on June 8, 2023 to answer to the charges.

  • Community Safety Initiative at 720 Bruce Avenue

    Throughout the month of May, the Greater Sudbury Police Service in collaboration with the City of Greater Sudbury (CGS) and Sudbury Housing conducted a community engagement and enforcement initiative at 720 Bruce Avenue proactively and reactively addressing community concerns regarding criminal activity and social disorder.

    Over the four-week period, officers met with tenants and CGS Municipal Law-enforcement Officers (MLEO) to strengthen partnerships and increase awareness of long-term,.

  • Detectives conducting homicide investigation after two youths were stabbed on Falconbridge Road

    UPDATE 3

    Overnight, both youths attended headquarters and surrendered to police in relation to the stabbing on Falconbridge Road that claimed the life of a 17-year-old youth and left a second youth with serious injuries.

    A 16-year-old, youth has been charged with First Degree Murder, Attempt Murder, Carrying a Concealed Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose.

  • Over $205,680 worth of drugs & handgun seized after traffic stop on vehicle involved in thefts

    In April, the Greater Sudbury Police Service received two theft complaints involving what is believed to be the same suspect vehicle. Information provided was that on April 18, 2023, a flat bed trailer and a Bobcat mini excavator were stolen from a business on O’Neil Drive West in Garson and on April 25, 2023, a generator was stolen from a business on Maley Drive.

  • 2023 Community and Police Awards Gala - Award Recipients

    On May 17, 2023, the Greater Sudbury Police Service hosting the 2023 Community and Police Awards Gala at the Caruso Club.

    The Community and Police Awards Gala provides the Greater Sudbury Police Service with the opportunity to honour police service members, community partners and community members who have demonstrated leadership during incidents that required immediate intervention.

  • 58-year-old man arrested and charged with Sexual Assault-related offences

    In September 2022 and March 2023, the Greater Sudbury Police Service received two separate complaints of Sexual Assault involving the same man. Both incidents involved youths under the age of 16.

  • Sudbury Region Police Museum Reopening

    Thank you to everyone who joined us for the reopening of our Sudbury Region Police Museum last night!

    The Sudbury Region Police museum originally opened in 2002 and was originally spearheaded by Retired Staff Inspector Robert Cowley and Retired Superintendent Emile Lavigne. Using artifacts, photographs and documents, the museum displays the origins, growth and development of the Greater Sudbury Police Service and local law enforcement.
