Detectives investigating suspicious death of 69-year-old man
UPDATE
Through the investigation and as a result of the postmortem conducted through the coroner’s office, the death of the 69-year-old man has been deemed to be not suspicious in nature.
The scene on Morin Street has been released and police will no longer be in the area.

68-year-old Man Arrested and Charged by Internet Child Exploitation UnitOn April 12, 2023 the Greater Sudbury Police Service Internet Child Exploitation and Computer Forensics Units executed a Search Warrant at a residence in Greater Sudbury.
As a result of the investigation, 68-year-old, Jack Laakso was arrested and charged with the following offences under the Criminal Code of Canada:
- Access Child Pornography
- Possess Child Pornography
- Make Available Child Pornography
He appeared in Bail Court on April 13, 2023 to answer to the charges.

During this time, 71 Survivors of Human Trafficking have been identified however a number of these individuals are not residents of Greater Sudbury as Human Trafficking is a multi-jurisdictional crime where traffickers move from city to city, within the province and throughout Canada.

Provincial Joint-forces Guns and Gangs Team and GSPS DEU Seize 2.7 Kilograms of CocaineThe Provincial Joint Forces Guns and Gangs Enforcement Team (PGNG), in partnership with the Greater Sudbury Police Service and with assistance from the Durham Regional Police, has arrested six people after identifying a drug trafficking operation reaching from the Greater Toronto Area to Sudbury.
The PGNG and Greater Sudbury Police Service began the investigation in August of 2022.

We are looking to speak with the driver of the transport in relation to the incident, as well as, the driver of the vehicle who was almost hit by the SUV when it crossed the centre line into oncoming traffic.
