75 Charges Laid in Commercial Motor Vehicle Safety Blitz

From June 10th-12th, 2024, the Greater Sudbury Police Traffic Management Unit conducted a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) safety blitz in partnership with Ontario Provincial Police T.I.M.E. and the Ministry of Transportation. vehicles outside

The results were as follows:

  • Level 1 CVSA Inspections: 43
  • Level 2 Inspections: 4
  • Inspections Under 4500 kg: 12
  • Total Inspections: 59

12 Commercial Motor Vehicles were taken out of service due to reasons such as: brakes inoperable, wrong class of licence, damaged trailer connections, no CVOR.

Plate Removals: 5 (Unsafe vehicle, no CVOR)

In total, 75 charges were laid, including:

  • Overweight
  • Improper class of licence
  • Emissions violations
  • Insecure loads
  • Defective braking systems
  • Drive while suspended
  • Speeding
  • No CVOR
  • Fail to complete daily inspections
  • No insurance
  • No annual inspection sticker
  • Improper trailer connection

vehicles outsideCommercial vehicle operators in Ontario must have a valid Commercial Vehicle Operator’s Registration (CVOR) certificate and carry a copy. Vehicles that require a CVOR certificate include:

  • Trucks with a gross weight or registered gross weight over 4,500 kg
  • Buses with a seating capacity of 10 or more passengers
  • Tow trucks - regardless of gross weight or registered gross weight

Commercial motor vehicles and their drivers must meet strict safety standards and follow all commercial vehicle-related regulations in the Highway Traffic Act. CMV's must be inspected regularly to ensure they are safe to drive.
