Berrio on the Sandbanks 2026

On Sunday, July 19, 2026, Larry Berrio, in partnership with Destination Northern Ontario, will host the annual Berrio on the Sandbanks event at Lake Wahnapitae Provincial Park.

To help ensure a safe and enjoyable event for all attendees, officers from the Greater Sudbury Police Service, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, the Anishinabek Police Service, the Ontario Provincial Police, and Ontario Parks Wardens will be conducting patrols on the water and along the shoreline throughout the day. Greater Sudbury Paramedic Services will also be on site and assisting officers as a precautionary measure.

Officers will be present at local boat launches to promote safe boating practices and to ensure vessels are equipped with the required safety equipment before heading onto the water.

Community members planning to attend are reminded that operating a boat while impaired is a criminal offence, just as it is when operating a vehicle on a roadway. Individuals who choose to consume alcohol or drugs and operate a marine vessel will face impaired driving charges. Attendees are also reminded that open alcohol is prohibited in a boat and violations will result in enforcement action.

Our collective goal is to promote the safety, security, and well-being of everyone attending the event and to ensure that everyone returns home safely to their loved ones. Please make responsible choices and never operate a boat while impaired.

Before heading out on the water, take the time to thoroughly inspect your vessel and ensure all required safety equipment is on board and in good working order. A few moments of preparation can make all the difference in keeping everyone safe and enjoying a memorable day on Lake Wahnapitae.

In preparation for the event, please take a few minutes to review Transport Canada’s Safe Boating Guide
