DEU arrests Mississauga man for drug trafficking and firearms offences

On August 23, 2026, detectives from the Greater Sudbury Police Service (GSPS) Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) concluded a drug trafficking investigation in Greater Sudbury.

As a result of the investigation, DEU detectives, with assistance from the GSPS Emergency Response Unit (ERU) and Community Response Unit (CRU), arrested a man from Mississauga as he entered Greater Sudbury. Investigators subsequently executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) search warrant at a downtown residence associated with the accused.

A search of the accused incident to arrest resulted in the seizure of approximately:

• 500 grams of cocaine
• One loaded Ruger semi-automatic handgun
• Four cell phones
• $3,000 in Canadian currency

A search of the residence resulted in the seizure of:

• $500 in Canadian currency
• Digital scales
• Packaging materials
• Cutting agents

The estimated street value of the seized cocaine is approximately $50,000.

As a result of the investigation, 36-year-old, Kmar Kelly, of Mississauga, Ontario, has been charged under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and the Criminal Code of Canada with:

• Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking
• Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
• Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
• Possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition

The accused attended bail court on August 24, 2026, to answer to the charges.

This investigation was conducted in collaboration with the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP)-led Provincial Guns and Gangs Enforcement Team.
