DEU arrests two individuals from Southern Ontario for drugs trafficking

On June 30, 2026, detectives from the Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) concluded an investigation into individuals believed to be trafficking illicit drugs in our community. 

Based on the investigation, detectives from the DEU conducted a traffic stop on a rental vehicle on Lasalle Boulevard where two individuals from Southern Ontario were arrested for drug offences. 

A Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) search warrant was subsequently executed at a local hotel where the two individuals were staying. 

A search of the two individuals, vehicle and hotel room, revealed approximately 23 grams of suspected cocaine, a digital scale, four cell phones, and approximately $3,700 in cash. The estimated street value of the seized drugs is $2,300. 

As a result of the investigation, 39-year-old, Michael Lewis and 30-year-old, Nicholas Persaud of Lefroy, Ontario have been charged with the following offences under the CDSA and Criminal Code of Canada:

·         Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking

·         Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000

The two individuals attended Weekend and Statutory Holiday (WASH) court on July 1, 2026, to answer to the charges.
