DEU arrests two individuals in connection to illicit drug trafficking downtown

Earlier this summer, the Greater Sudbury Police Service Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) received information regarding suspected drug trafficking in the downtown core.

On July 30, 2026, DEU investigators observed what was believed to be a hand-to-hand drug transaction near Beech Street, during which two individuals exchanged money for illicit drugs.

As a result of the investigation, a 35-year-old man and a 33-year-old man, both from Greater Sudbury, were arrested.

A search of the individuals incident to arrest resulted in the seizure of:

• 6.6 grams of fentanyl
• Two 5 mg OxyContin pills
• $640 in cash

The estimated street value of the drugs seized is approximately $670.

The 35-year-old man has been charged under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) and the Criminal Code of Canada with:

• Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking
• Trafficking in a Schedule I substance
• Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000

The 33-year-old man has been charged under the CDSA and the Criminal Code of Canada with:

• Possession of a Schedule I substance (two counts)
• Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000

Both individuals were released on undertakings and are scheduled to appear in court on October 21, 2026, to answer to the charges. Their names cannot be released at this time as the information has not yet been sworn to through the court process.
