Drug trafficking investigation results in firearm seizure and multiple charges

On September 24, 2026, members of the Greater Sudbury Police Service (GSPS) Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU), with assistance from the Intelligence Unit, concluded a drug trafficking investigation in Greater Sudbury.

As part of the investigation, members of the GSPS Emergency Response Unit (ERU) and K-9 Unit conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Centennial Drive. Two adult males were arrested for drug-related offences. During the arrest, one of the males fled on foot but was quickly located and arrested a short distance away with the assistance of the police service canine.

Investigators subsequently obtained and executed a search warrant at a residence on Melvin Avenue in Greater Sudbury.

As a result of searches conducted on the accused parties, the vehicle, and the residence, officers seized:

·         Approximately 3.5 grams of cocaine

·         Three 5 milligrams oxycodone tablets

·         Three cellular phones

·         Approximately $10,000 in Canadian currency

·         A loaded Glock handgun equipped with an extended magazine

The estimated street value of the seized drugs is approximately $350.

As a result of the investigation, two men were arrested and charged with offences under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and the Criminal Code of Canada, including:

·         Possession of a Schedule I controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, to wit: Cocaine.

·         Possession of a controlled substance, to wit: Oxycodone. 

·         Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.00.

·         Possession of a prohibited weapon contrary to prohibition order.

·         Possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition.

·         Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized.

·         Unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle.

The accused will attend bail court on September 25, 2026, to answer to the charges.
