Emergency Services respond to drowning at Moonlight Beach

Shortly after 5:20 p.m. on July 19, 2025, officers were dispatched to a drowning incident at Moonlight Beach.

Upon arrival, officers met with Greater Sudbury Fire Services who were on scene. GSFS Water Rescue had responded to the incident and pulled two individuals from the water. One individual, a 27-year-old, man was alert and conscious upon reaching shore, however, the second individual, a 24-year-old, man was unconscious and without vital signs.

Greater Sudbury Paramedic Services began life saving measures on the 24-year-old, man once he reached the shore. Unfortunately, he was pronounced deceased on scene. The second individual, the 27-year-old, man was transported to hospital by paramedics and remains in stable condition.

Our deepest condolences go out to his family and friends and those impacted by this tragedy. His name will not be released out of respect for his family’s wishes.

Based on the investigation, it is believed that the two individuals were using an inflatable kayak when the craft capsized. Additional parties on scene attempted to assist the individuals and contacted emergency responders.

We would like to commend Greater Sudbury Fire Services for the timely response and rescue and recovery efforts, as well as, Greater Sudbury Paramedic Services for the immediate medical assistance.
