Emergency Services respond to drowning on Vermilion River

On Saturday, August 9th, 2025, officers were dispatched to Vermilion River near Vermilion Falls in relation to a drowning.

Information provided was that a group of individuals had been swimming in the area when one man separated from the group and began to struggle while attempting to return.

Members of the public who were swimming, kayaking, and canoeing nearby attempted to assist the man as he went under the water. A community member in a canoe was able to locate the man under the water, jumped in and pulled the man to shore.

Bystanders initiated life-saving measures until police and paramedics arrived. Emergency responders continued resuscitation efforts; however, despite all attempts, the 27-year-old man was pronounced deceased.

We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased during this difficult time. Out of respect for the family’s wishes, the individual’s name will not be released.

We would also like to recognize and commend the courageous actions of the community members who intervened in an urgent effort to save a life.
