Impaired and Suspended Driver Charged Following Fail-to-Remain Collision

On August 27, 2026, shortly after 2:00 p.m., officers with the Greater Sudbury Police Service responded to a fail-to-remain collision near Bancroft Drive.

The investigation revealed that a pickup truck struck another vehicle before fleeing the scene. After speaking with witnesses, officers obtained a description of the suspect vehicle.

Approximately one hour later, police located the pickup truck involved in the collision. Through the investigation, officers identified the driver and determined he was suspended from driving and wanted on 19 charges of theft under $5,000. Officers also determined that the driver was impaired.

As a result, a 31-year-old Sudbury man was arrested and charged with the following offences under the Criminal Code of Canada, the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) and the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act (CAIA):

·         Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs

·         Failure to stop after accident

·         Theft under $5,000 (19 counts)

·         Fail to remain

·         Driving while under suspension

·         Careless driving

·         Drive motor vehicle - no currently validated permit

·         Fail to surrender insurance card

The accused was held in police custody pending a bail hearing. His name cannot be released at this time, as the information has not yet been sworn before the court.

As a result of the impaired driving investigation, the accused's driver's licence was suspended for an additional 90 days, and the vehicle he was operating was impounded for seven days.
