ITSU investigating fatal collision on MR80 near Hanmer Valley Shopping Centre

Just before 9:55 a.m. on September 5, 2026, members of the Greater Sudbury Police Service (GSPS), Greater Sudbury Fire Services, and Greater Sudbury Paramedic Services responded to a two-vehicle collision on Municipal Road 80 (MR80) near the Hanmer Valley Shopping Centre in Val Caron.

 

Preliminary investigation indicates that a blue sedan travelling eastbound on MR80 collided with a black SUV that was turning left from the shopping centre parking lot to travel westbound on MR80.

 

Upon arrival, emergency responders located three individuals who had sustained serious injuries. The driver of the blue sedan, a 21-year-old man, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The passenger of the blue sedan, a 20-year-old man, was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries and was subsequently pronounced deceased by medical professionals.

 

The driver of the black SUV, a 43-year-old woman, was transported to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

 

The Greater Sudbury Police Service extends its deepest condolences to the families and friends of the deceased, as well as all those affected by this tragic incident.

 

Members of the GSPS Integrated Traffic Safety Unit (ITSU) are investigating the collision. The investigation remains ongoing.
