Man Arrested After Stabbing at Apartment Building on Paris Street

Just before 1:55 p.m. on Monday, April 27, 2020, we received a call of a Weapons Complaint in relation to a stabbing at an apartment building on Paris Street.

Officers arrived on scene and located a 56 year old man inside of a residential unit within the building. The man had sustained a stab wound and was transported to the hospital by Paramedics with non-life threatening injuries.

The man responsible for the attack had fled prior to police arrival.

Information provided to Police was that the man had fled the scene in a black Kia sedan.

This was a targeted and isolated incident as the two individuals are known to each other and there was no threat to the general Public.

At 8:50 p.m. Ontario Provincial Police Officers located the vehicle being driven by the man on Highway 69 at Riverside Drive in Britt.

The Officers placed the man under arrest and transported him to our headquarters where he was booked into custody.

31 year old, Jake Deschamps has been charged with the following offences under the Criminal Code of Canada;

  • Assault with a Weapon
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order x3

He attended Bail Court today, Tuesday, April 28, 2020 where he was remanded into custody.
