Officer arrest individual for impaired operation after incident on Ramsey Lake

Shortly after 7:45 p.m. on July 6, 2026, officers responded to a report of a suspected impaired driver. Information received indicated that an individual operating a boat was believed to be impaired.

While en route to the boat launch, officers received additional information that the individual had left the area in a pick-up truck towing a trailer. The boat, which had originally been loaded onto the trailer, was not properly secured and had fallen off, landing in the middle of the roadway near the intersection of John Street and Paris Street.

Officers located the pick-up truck on Lonsdale Avenue and conducted a traffic stop.

During their interaction with the driver, officers noticed signs of impairment. The individual was arrested for impaired operation and transported to police headquarters for further testing.

As the investigation continued, a qualified breath technician conducted breath tests, which revealed the individual had blood alcohol concentrations well above the legal limit.

The 37-year-old, man from Greater Sudbury has been charged with Operation While Impaired and Dangerous Operation under the Criminal Code of Canada, as well as Insecure Load under the Highway Traffic Act.

He has been released on an appearance notice with a court date of August 19, 2026, to answer to the charges. Additionally, his driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days and the vehicle impounded for seven days.

His name cannot be released at this time, as the court information has not yet been sworn to through the court process.
