Officers arrest 40-year-old after serious snowmobile collision

Just after 7:50 p.m. on April 13, 2025, officers were dispatched to Wanapitei Lake near West Bay Road in relation to a serious single vehicle collision involving a snowmachine.

Due to the location of the incident and the information provided, Greater Sudbury Fire Services, Paramedic Services and Police Service, as well as, Ornge Ambulance (helicopter) were dispatched to the incident.

Upon arrival, emergency responders located a 13-year-old, youth (passenger) who has sustained minor injuries and a 40-year-old, man (driver) who had sustained serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

The youth was transported to hospital by paramedics as a precautionary measure, while the driver was airlifted to the hospital by Ornge Ambulance.

While speaking with the driver, officers detected signs of impairment.

Based on the investigation, the 40-year-old, man has been charged with Impaired Operation. He was released on a promise to appear. His name cannot be released at this time as the information has not yet been sworn to through the court process.

The investigation into the collision is ongoing.
