Officers arrest four individuals after BB gun incident downtown

Just before 10:00 p.m. on August 10, 2026, the Greater Sudbury Police Service (GSPS) received multiple calls regarding the occupants of a pickup truck allegedly discharging fireworks and BB guns at individuals in the Downtown core.

Officers were dispatched immediately and began searching for the vehicle. As the investigation progressed, additional reports were received indicating the occupants continued to fire BB guns at pedestrians.

During the incidents, one individual was struck by a pellet. Through the investigation, officers were able to identify and obtain the licence plate of the pickup truck.

At approximately 10:40 p.m., officers located the vehicle in Chelmsford and arrested four individuals.

A search incident to arrest resulted in the seizure of multiple pellet guns and ammunition.

As a result, two 18-year-old, young men and two 17-year-old, young offenders were charged with the following under the Criminal Code of Canada:

• Pointing a firearm
• Discharging a firearm with intent
• Assault with a weapon
• Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose

All four individuals were released on undertakings with court dates in the Fall. The names of the two adults cannot be released at this time as the information has not yet been sworn to through the court process. The two youths cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. No further information related to their identities will be provided.
