Officers arrest individual downtown after hit and run and on the Kingsway

Just before 11:10 a.m. on August 7, 2026, members of the Greater Sudbury Police Service (GSPS) responded to a two-vehicle collision on Kingsway.

Initial information indicated that one of the drivers involved had fled the scene on foot prior to police arrival. Officers searched the area but were unable to locate the individual at that time.

Officers were able to identify the driver through the surveillance footage. Further investigation revealed that the vehicle involved had been stolen earlier that morning by the same individual.

Later that day, officers observed the individual in the downtown core where he was taken into custody without incident. Officers searched the individual incident to arrest and located a quantity of what is believed to be Fentanyl.

As a result of the investigation, 39-year-old, Jeffrey Ense has been charged with the following offences under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA), Criminal Code of Canada and the Highway Traffic Act (HTA):

·         Possession of Schedule I substance

·         Theft of motor vehicle

·         Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000

·         Dangerous operation

·         Failure to stop after accident

·         Failure to comply with probation

·         Drive motor vehicle - no licence

·         Fail to report accident

·         Fail to give required information

The individual was held overnight in police custody and attended Weekend and Statutory Holiday (WASH) court on Saturday, August 8, 2026, to answer to the charges.
