Officers seize drugs, cash and recover stolen property during downtown patrol

Around 2:20 a.m. on September 23, 2026, Greater Sudbury Police Service (GSPS) officers observed an individual riding a bicycle in the downtown core that had been reported stolen the previous day.

Officers quickly arrested the individual for possession of stolen property. A search incident to arrest resulted in officers locating a quantity of suspected illicit drugs and a large amount of cash.

Police seized methamphetamine, cocaine, and crack cocaine with an estimated combined street value of $9,795, along with $935 in cash. Officers also recovered the stolen bicycle valued at approximately $7,000.

The individual was also found to be the subject of an outstanding bench warrant related to charges of operation while impaired, dangerous operation, unauthorized possession of a firearm, and possession of a schedule I substance.

As a result of the investigation, 38-year-old, Blaine Gervais was charged with the following offences under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) and Criminal Code of Canada:

• Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking
• Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 (bicycle valued at more than $7,000)
• Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000

Blaine Gervais was held in custody and appeared in bail court on September 23, 2026.

This investigation demonstrates the impact of proactive patrol and officer attentiveness. By recognizing the stolen bicycle and taking immediate investigative action, officers were able to recover stolen property, execute an outstanding warrant, and remove a significant quantity of illicit drugs from the community.
