UPDATE - 40-year-old arrested - Officers Investigating Serious Assault on Durham Street

UPDATE

As part of the ongoing investigation into the serious assault that occurred on Durham Street on August 28, 2026, officers identified the individual believed to be responsible for the attack.

At approximately 8:20 p.m. on August 29, 2026, members of the Emergency Response Unit (ERU) located and arrested 40-year-old Todd Provincial. He has been charged with the following offences under the Criminal Code of Canada:

·         Attempted Murder

·         Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose

·         Disguise with Intent

·         Failure to Comply with a Probation Order

Todd Provincial appeared before the Weekend and Statutory Holiday (WASH) Court on August 30, 2026, to answer to the charges.

 

UPDATE

On August 29, 2026, the male party responsible for this incident was arrested by the GSPS Criminal Investigations Division and the Emergency Response Unit. He will be attending WASH (Weekend and Statutory Holiday) court on the August 30, 2026.

ORIGINAL

On August 28, 2026, shortly before 1:00 a.m., officers with the Greater Sudbury Police Service were dispatched to Durham Street following multiple 911 calls reporting that a male had been assaulted.

Upon arrival, officers located a 35-year-old man suffering from serious injuries. He was transported to Health Sciences North for medical treatment.

Members of the Greater Sudbury Police Service remain actively engaged in the investigation. Investigators are currently canvassing the downtown core, reviewing surveillance footage and speaking with witnesses to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and identifying those involved.
