In September 2022 and March 2023, the Greater Sudbury Police Service received two separate complaints of Sexual Assault involving the same man. Both incidents involved youths under the age of 16. Due to the sensitive nature of the incident and to protect the identities of the survivors, no further details will be provided.

On May 11, 2023, Detectives from the Major Sex Crimes Section of our Criminal Investigation Division arrested and charged 58-year-old, James Chevrette of Greater Sudbury with the following offences under the Criminal Code of Canada in relation to the two reported incidents;

  • Sexual Assault x2
  • Sexual Interference x2
  • Invitation to Sexual Touching Under 16 Years of Age
  • Make Sexually Explicit Material Available to a Person Under 16 Years of Age

He attended Bail Court on May 12, 2023 to answer to the charges and was remanded into custody. He will appear in court today, May 16, 2023.
