We are your police service, and we are committed to serving you effectively and efficiently.

If you have a complaint about the conduct of a police officer or about the services or policies of the Greater Sudbury Police Service, you may file a formal complaint with the Law Enforcement Complaints Agency (LECA).

Although members of the public may file a complaint directly with LECA at any time, they are also welcome to speak with the on‑duty Staff Sergeant to discuss their concerns.

To speak with the on‑duty Staff Sergeant, please call 705‑675‑9171, extension 2609.

Law Enforcement Complaints Agency (LECA)

The Law Enforcement Complaints Agency (LECA) is responsible for receiving, managing, and overseeing public complaints about the conduct of:

  • All municipal, regional, and provincial (OPP) police officers
  • Special Constables employed by the Niagara Parks Commission
  • Peace Officers in the Legislative Protective Service
  • First Nations police officers whose police service has opted into the Community Safety and Policing Act (CSPA)

As an independent civilian oversight body, LECA ensures that all public complaints about police are handled in a way that is transparent, effective, and fair.

All complaints about police officers are submitted to LECA. After reviewing the complaint, LECA will decide how it should proceed. The investigation may be carried out by:

  • The police service involved
  • Another police service
  • LECA itself

LECA reviews the outcome of every complaint to ensure proper oversight.
