Around 5:15 p.m. on September 10, 2023, officers in our Community Response Unit were on bike patrol in the downtown core conducting focused patrols in high-complaint, high-traffic areas.

While cycling through a walkway on Larch Street, officers found an individual believed to be trafficking drugs as there were drugs, a scale and a large amount of cash in plain view.

The officers placed the individual under arrest and upon searching the individual, officers located just under 10 grams of what is believed to be Fentanyl and over $770 in cash. The street value of the drugs is approximately $3,900.

37-year-old, Mitch Shawana has been charged with the following offences under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) and Criminal Code of Canada;

  • Trafficking a schedule I substance
  • Fail to comply with probation order

 Mitch Shawana will attend bail court today, September 11, 2023 to answer to the charges.
