The Greater Sudbury Police Service remains committed to holding offenders accountable by focusing resources on those who pose an elevated risk to the safety, security and wellness of Greater Sudbury. The Central Community Response Unit (CRU) is a specialty unit dedicated to consistent, visible police presence in our downtown core through reactive and proactive foot and bicycle patrols.
From May 9-13, 2025, CRU officers on bicycles executed 18 arrest warrants downtown and seized close to $8,000 in Fentanyl and Cocaine.
On May 9, 2025, members of CRU located an individual on Larch Street who was wanted for Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 and Fraud Under $5,000. The individual was taken into custody without incident.
Upon searching the individual incident to arrest, officers located 25.8 grams of what is believed to be Fentanyl. 40-year-old, Jesse Chartrand was additionally charged with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking a Schedule I Substance. Jesse Chartrand was released on an Undertaking with a court date of June 11, 2025.
On May 10, 2025, members of CRU located an individual on Elgin Street who was wanted on an outstanding Bench Warrant for Fail to Comply with Probation. Officers took the individuals into custody without incident.
Upon searching the individual incident to arrest, officers located 37 grams of Fentanyl and close to 17 grams of Cocaine, as well as, $1,690 in cash. 33-year-old, John Corbiere was additionally charged with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking a Schedule I Substance x2. John Corbiere appeared in Bail Court on May 11, 2025, and was remanded into custody.
On May 12, 2025, members of CRU located a stolen TREK bicycle valued at $5,000 in the area of Elm Street and Durham Street and returned the bicycle to its owner.
