UPDATE 3

Overnight, both youths attended headquarters and surrendered to police in relation to the stabbing on Falconbridge Road that claimed the life of a 17-year-old youth and left a second youth with serious injuries.

A 16-year-old, youth has been charged with First Degree Murder, Attempt Murder, Carrying a Concealed Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose.

A 17-year-old, youth has been charged with Assault x2 and Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose.

Their names cannot be released as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Both youths were held in police custody overnight and will attend Bail Court today, June 15, 2023 to answer to the charges.

UPDATE 2

Police have concluded the ground and aerial search in the area of Falconbridge Road and Maley Drive as it is believed that the two youths involved in the incident are no longer in the wooded area.

Detectives with the assistance of Patrol Operations will continue to canvas the area for information and video surveillance footage. Anyone who may have video surveillance or dash camera footage in the area is asked to review the footage and contact police with anything related to the incident or the involved individuals.

We would like to thank those who have provided information related to the incident and the individuals involved.

The youths have been identified, however due to their ages and the provisions under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, we cannot provide their identities or photos of them at this time.

The youths remain at large, and we continue our efforts to locate them to ensure that they are held responsible for the violent attack and to account for their physical well-being given the nature of the altercation. UPDATE

Members of our Emergency Response, K9, Traffic Management and Rural Community Response Units will be conducting ground and aerial searches with the assistance of the Ontario Provincial Police helicopter in the area of Falconbridge Road and Maley Drive. The Mobile Command Unit will also be set-up in the area to support the search team.

It is believed that two individuals involved in the homicide on Falconbridge Road fled on foot into the wooded area.

The two youths, approximately 16-17 years old are described as follows;

  • 5’7” tall, around 140 lbs., with curly brown hair. Last seen wearing baseball hat, grey sweatshirt and black pants
  • 6’0” tall, around 145 lbs., with shaggy, dirty blonde hair. Last seen wearing a brown hat and tan pants

Detectives with the assistance of Patrol Operations will continue to canvas the area for information and video surveillance footage. Anyone who may have video surveillance or dash camera footage in the area is asked to review the footage and contact police with anything related to the incident or the described individuals.

ORIGINAL

Around 2:50 a.m. this morning, June 14, 2023, officers were dispatched to a serious assault in the area of Falconbridge Road at Racicot Drive. Information provided was that two individuals had been stabbed and required immediate medical attention.

Upon arrival officers located two youths who had sustained serious, life-threatening injuries. Both individuals were transported to the hospital by City of Greater Sudbury Paramedic Services. Unfortunately, one of youths, who is 17-year-old has died because of his injuries. The second youth remains in hospital in stable condition.

Our deepest condolences go out to the youth’s family and friends. His name will not be released out of respect for his family’s wishes. 

It is believed that an altercation took place between a group of individuals and as a result of the altercation the two youths were stabbed. The involved parties fled the area on foot prior to police arrival.

This is believed to be an isolated incident as the individuals involved are known to each other.

This is a homicide investigation and Detectives from the Major Crime Section of our Criminal Investigation Division with the assistance of Patrol Operations will be canvassing the area for information and video surveillance footage.
