UPDATE

Overnight, officers held the scene on Cabot Street as Detectives applied for a search warrant of the residence. Our Forensic Identification Unit processed multiple scenes and several witnesses were interviewed.

The search warrant was executed on Saturday, February 3, 2024 and the scene has since been released.

30-year-old, Bradley Peltier of Wikwemikong appeared in bail court Saturday morning and was remanded into custody. He has been charged with first-degree murder and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

The identity of the 20-year-old man will not be released out of respect for his family’s wishes. A postmortem examination will be conducted next week in collaboration with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service. We extend our condolences to all those who are grieving.

Detectives from our Criminal Investigations Division are looking to speak with anyone who may have information related to this incident.

Around 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 2, 2024 Greater Sudbury Police and Greater Sudbury Paramedics responded to the area of Cabot Street and Hearne Avenue regarding a weapons complaint. Information provided was that an individual had been stabbed.

Upon arrival officers and paramedics located a 20-year-old man who had sustained serious, life-threatening injuries. He was transported to hospital; however, he was unfortunately pronounced deceased by medical professionals.  

His will not be released at this time officers are in the process of notifying his next-of-kin.

Officers have arrested on person in relation to this matter and the individual will appear in Weekend & Statutory Holiday (W.A.S.H.) Court on Saturday morning. The identity of the individual cannot be released at this time as the information has not yet been sworn to through the court process.

Detectives from our Major Crimes Section of the Criminal Investigations Division are investigating the incident.

Officers will remain on scene as Detectives are applying for a search warrant.

There is no ongoing threat to public safety. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call police at 705 675-9171.
