
On November 27, 2025, Detectives from the Greater Sudbury Police Service Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) were conducting an investigation into individuals suspected of trafficking illicit drugs in Greater Sudbury.
During the course of the investigation, officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Jean Street. As a result, one adult from Greater Sudbury and one youth from the Greater Toronto Area were taken into custody. The youth resisted arrest and, following a brief struggle, was safely apprehended by officers.
A subsequent search led to the seizure of approximately 3 grams of cocaine, a digital scale, $5,425 in Canadian currency, and a loaded 9mm Glock handgun.
The 16-year-old youth of Greater Toronto has been charged with the following offences under the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA), the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) and the Criminal Code of Canada (CC):
- Breach of sentence order (YCJA, Sec. 137) – x2
- Careless use of firearm, weapon, ammunition (CC, Sec. 86(1))
- Unsafe storage (CC, Sec. 86(2))
- Carry concealed weapon (CC, Sec. 90)
- Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose (CC, Sec. 88)
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm (CC, Sec. 91)
- Unauthorized possession of a weapon (CC, Sec. 91(2))
- Possession of prohibited/restricted firearm with ammunition (CC, Sec. 95(a))
- Firearm in motor vehicle (CC, Sec. 94(1))
- Possession of firearm contrary to prohibition order (CC, Sec. 117.01(1))
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 (CC, Sec. 354(1)(a))
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine (CDSA, Sec. 5(2))
- Resist peace officer (CC, Sec. 129(a))
The 37-year-old man of Greater Sudbury has been charged with the following offences under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA), the Criminal Code of Canada (CC) and the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act (CAIA):
- Careless use of firearm, weapon, ammunition (CC, Sec. 86(1))
- Unsafe storage (CC, Sec. 86(2))
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm (CC, Sec. 91)
- Unauthorized possession of a weapon (CC, Sec. 91(2))
- Possession of prohibited/restricted firearm with ammunition (CC, Sec. 95(a))
- Firearm in motor vehicle (CC, Sec. 94(1))
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 (CC, Sec. 354(1)(a))
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine (CDSA, Sec. 5(2))
- Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code (CC, Sec. 320.18(1)(a))
- Fail to surrender insurance (CAIA, Sec. 3(1)(a))
Both individuals are scheduled to appear in bail court on November 28, 2025, to answer to the charges. Their names cannot be released as the information has not yet been sworn to through the court process.
