Over the Family Day long weekend, our Traffic Management Unit conducted three #AnywhereAnytime Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) spot checks.
In total, 1,019 vehicles were stopped resulting in two drivers being charged with Operation While Impaired – one alcohol-related and one drug-related. Those drivers had their licences suspended for 90 days and vehicles impounded for seven days. Both drivers will appear in Criminal court in answer to the charges.
In addition, Officers issued four, three-day Driver's Licence suspensions to drivers providing breath samples in the warn range, as well as, for Novice driver violations.
Officers also issued 15 Highway Traffic Act offence notices for other driver and vehicle violations.
As a reminder, you should expect us out conducting random RIDE checks anywhere at anytime, so please plan ahead. There is no excuse to drive while impaired.
