Just after 3:00 a.m. this morning, September 29, 2023, officers were dispatched to a single vehicle collision on Municipal Road 80 (MR80) at Dugas Street in Hanmer.

Police, City of Greater Sudbury Paramedic Services and City of Greater Sudbury Fire Services attended the scene and located the driver who was unresponsive. First responders began life-saving measures and Paramedics transported the driver to the hospital.

Unfortunately, the 73-year-old man from Greater Sudbury was pronounced deceased at the hospital by medical professionals. Our deepest condolences go out to his family and friends. His name will not be released out of respect for the family’s wishes.

Through the investigation it has been determined that the vehicle was travelling East on MR80 when the driver and lone occupant of the vehicle suffered a medical emergency, lost control of the vehicle and the vehicle struck a residence. No one inside the home was injured as a result of the collision.

Members of our Traffic Management Unit continue to investigate the collision and MR80 remains closed at St. Mary Street.
