UPDATE 
Investigators reviewed CCTV footage and used Automated Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) technology to identify the vehicle involved in the collision. Officers subsequently executed a search warrant at the registered owner’s residence, where the driver was identified.
A 55-year-old man of Greater Sudbury was arrested at approximately 5:10 p.m. on February 27, 2026, and charged with Failure to Stop After Accident Causing Death. His name cannot be released at this time as the information has not yet been sworn to through the court process. The vehicle has been seized and will undergo forensic and mechanical examinations.
The accused was released on an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on April 29, 2026, to answer to the charge.

ORIGINAL

Just before 7:00 a.m. on February 27, 2026, the Greater Sudbury Police Service responded to a call in the area of 1720 Paris Street regarding a hit‑and‑run collision involving a pedestrian.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the pedestrian was struck in the northbound lane of Paris Street by a vehicle that fled the area before police were contacted.

First responders attempted life saving measures; but unfortunately, the 46-year-old woman succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene. Our deepest condolences are extended to her family and friends. Her name will not be released out of respect for her family’s wishes.

Paris Street remains closed at Indian Road and Maki Avenue while members of the Integrated Traffic Safety Unit and the Identification Unit continue their investigation. The road closure will remain in place for an undetermined period, and motorists are asked to use alternate routes.

An update will be provided when more information becomes available.

Anyone with a dash camera who travelled on Paris Street between 6:30 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. on February 27, 2026, is asked to review their footage and contact the Integrated Traffic Safety Unit at 705‑675‑9171 ext. 2421 with any relevant information.
