Just before 7:45 p.m. on January 24, 2024, officers were dispatched to Young Street in Capreol to assist Greater Sudbury Fire Services with scene control as firefighters were actively trying to suppress a residential fire.

While firefighters were attempting to clear the building and extinguish the fire, the building collapsed injuring three volunteer firefighters. The individuals were transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No injuries have been reported by any of the residents of the building.

Detectives in the Major Crime Section of our Criminal Investigation Division are working in collaboration with the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office to determine the cause of the fire. Detectives are also working in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour due to the injuries sustained by the three volunteer firefighters.
