Today, July 31, 2025, the Greater Sudbury Police Service was proud to host Hon. Zee Hamid, the Associate Solicitor General for Auto Theft and Bail Reform, as part of his provincial Bail Reform initiative.
“I commend the Greater Sudbury Police Service for their leadership in adopting the Provincial Bail Compliance Dashboard,” said Associate Solicitor General Zee Hamid. “This innovative tool gives our officers real-time data to monitor high-risk offenders, ensuring stricter compliance and enhancing community safety across Ontario. Together, we’re building a stronger, safer province through collaboration and accountability."
The Greater Sudbury Police Service is one of 18 Ontario police services to recently onboard the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Provincial Bail Compliance Dashboard (PBCD), aimed at monitoring and sharing information about individuals on bail for firearms-related offences.
The Provincial Bail Compliance Dashboard is a situational awareness and investigative tool, managed by the OPP, that provides cross-jurisdictional and inter-agency data to assist Ontario’s police officers with managing individuals on bail in the community. The dashboard provides critical information about offenders released on bail for firearms-related offences. It significantly improves the monitoring of bail compliance, enhancing the safety of frontline officers and ensuring they can proactively respond to bail violations.
The PBCD is available to all police services in Ontario, reinforcing a province-wide effort to strengthen bail compliance and enhance public and officer safety.
Since January 2024, as part of the Bail Compliance and Warrant Apprehension Program, a total of 830 warrants have been executed by the Greater Sudbury Police Service (GSPS) Community Response Unit (CRU). A total of 622 compliance checks have been completed on 139 accused individuals, averaging a 76% compliance rate.
Since the launch of the Bail Compliance Dashboard (firearms-related offences) on July 3rd, 2025, an additional 18 compliance checks have been carried out on 47 accused individuals, with a 44% compliance rate.
“The integration of the Provincial Bail Compliance Dashboard strengthens our commitment to holding high-risk offenders accountable by providing our officers with enhanced tools to monitor and ensure compliance among individuals released on bail within our jurisdiction. This collaborative and data-informed approach supports our continued efforts to enhance public safety, protect victims, and build a safer community," said Chief Sara Cunningham.
The Greater Sudbury Police Service is dedicated to prevention and risk intervention through the Bail Compliance and Warrant Apprehension Program, with a strong focus on violent and high-risk offenders.
This program plays a critical role in preventing crime, victimization, and re-victimization by holding offenders accountable for their actions. We will continue to allocate resources to ensure strict adherence to court-ordered conditions and the prompt execution of arrest warrants for those breaching judicial orders. This proactive approach underscores the importance of accountability in reducing risks to our community.
