On February 25, 2022, we received information that an individual was being held against their will at 744 Bruce Avenue and that there were firearms inside the residence.

Members of our Integrated Crime Section supported by our Emergency Response Unit attended the address and were able to make contact with the individuals inside the residence. Through negotiations led by our Crisis Negotiators, all of the individuals inside of the residence safely exited the home and were taken into police custody without incident including the individual who was being held against their will.

Detectives in our Major Crime Section took over the investigation applying for Criminal Code and Controlled Drugs and Substance Act (CDSA) Search Warrants for the residence.

As a result of the investigation, Officers seized a quantity of Fentanyl and Methamphetamine, as well as, a drug scale, brass knuckles and two firearms with ammunition.

The following individuals have been charged under the Criminal Code of Canada and the CDSA.

31 year old Paula Mead from Sudbury

  • Possession of Schedule 1 Substance
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking x2
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm

31 year old Brandon Walker and 26 year old Brandon Kassa from the Greater Toronto Area

  • Forcible Confinement
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm x2
  • Possession of a Firearm and Ammunition contrary to Prohibition x3
  • Knowledge of Unauthorized possession of a Firearm x2
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
  • Pointing a Firearm
  • Assault with a Weapon
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance
  • Administer Noxious Substance with Intent to Endanger Life or Cause Bodily Harm

The three individuals appeared in Bail Court on February 26, 2022 to answer to related charges. They were all remanded into custody.

Due to the serious nature of this incident, no details related to the victim’s identity will be provided.
